PHC Coronavirus Update

After thoughtful consideration, we have decided to opt-out of participating in the JEL, NCEL & IEA Show Team leagues for the 2020-21 season.

First and foremost, keeping everyone safe and healthy by not contributing or being exposed to COVID-19 unnecessarily is the right thing to do. League showing requires traveling from barn to barn several times throughout the season. We simply do not know what tomorrow will bring where guidelines, phases, and protocols are concerned. Once we added the complexity of having to also stay informed of the guidelines for team shows that are held in other counties and states, the decision was clear. NOT TO WORRY - WE CAN AND WILL CONTINUE TO LEARN AND HAVE FUN AS A TEAM!

We are planning a series of in-house clinics to support your continued growth and development as riders. This is an opportunity to expose you to new and exciting learning experiences to strengthen your skills and encourage team building, with the goal of becoming even more prepared for next season. Our area is home to local show series that do not require a seasonal commitment during these uncertain times. If and when the time is right, we can pick and choose which shows we attend, stable in an area designated for us (or work out of our trailers), ride our own horses with our equipment, and feel secure in our already known sanitization, safety, and social distancing protocols.

Welcome to the

Potomac Horse Center

The Potomac Horse Center (PHC) is a public facility leased from the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC). The Center is located on a beautiful wooded lot in North Potomac, Maryland.

Founded in the late 1950's by F.G. "Stretch" Harting, PHC quickly became a world-renowned premiere international equestrian center. Currently operated through the direction of the Novograd family of New York, NY's Claremont Riding Academy, PHC continues its tradition of excellence.

50 Years Of Equestrian Heritage

The heart of the Potomac Horse Center is an extensive teaching program featuring riding classes for "Mini Mites" - 5 to 8 year old children - through adults of all levels. In addition, a strong classical dressage program, combined training, and a hunter/jumper program are available with riders competing under different trainers on both the "A" and local hunter/jumper circuits.

We offer a variety of activities with approximately 12 horse shows a year and a busy calendar of clinics featuring internationally recognized clinicians in many disciplines. PHC also offers other recreational activities such as birthday parties, individual pony rides, trail riding classes through wooded parkland, open houses, a summer horse camp program, therapeutic horseback riding, and more. Stop in and visit us any time!
